Operation Care Package5 Blue students decided to help service members because they wanted to help others who help us. Students wrote meaningful and detailed letters with stories, questions, jokes, and pictures for the troops while expressing their appreciation and decorated 2 boxes that they later packed for the troops.. As a class, they donated 10 boxes of items. Students learned that all of this helps to raise morale and spirits for men and women serving our country away from home. Students rotated through 7 different stations at Operation Care Package. They enjoyed them all, but a common favorite was packing the boxes. It was like a puzzle to fit so many items into one small box. It was special to them to look at the packing label and see who their decorated box and personal letter were being sent to.

Below are some of the MANY thoughts and reflections students had about lessons learned from their experiences.
"I learned that it is fun to help in my community and that anyone can help. I learned that being helpful will come back to you." Angie
It looked like all the kids were having a good time with all of our different voices for the characters " Jared
"This trip has motivated me to help because I see how fun it is." Nico
I have learned that you can't only think about yourself. This project made me think of things I can do to be a good citizen. I could not have asked for a better learning experience." Zoie
Julien- “I believe as older students working with younger kids, we demonstrated what it is like to be a role model .They can look up to us to help them with their education and have fun at the same time.”
“I learned that you have to respect others to earn their respect back. You can’t just get mad right away or be rude to others.” Samantha
“You can change the world no matter how small or how old you are. Kindness is the key to peace in the world. Citizenship changed my life for sure!“ Alexa
“This trip was meaningful to me because we gave people food who need it. Even if you don’t have food to donate, you can donate LOVE. People think about receiving, but you should think about giving.” Kaylen
“This trip helped us all think about others. I think we brightened many people’s day. It meant a lot to me because I never knew so many people lived in poverty.” Abby
“The food drive and food pantry showed me how important it is to help people in need who don’t have much. The project showed me how to be successful in life and have meaningful relationships. The experience I had was awesome.” Lisa
“It made me feel very happy about helping. It made an impact on me by making my own thoughts race about how to help. I want to help more and volunteer.”
“You always need to be grateful for what you have.”
“I learned how to set and achieve my life goals and how to love and care for others and my community.” Jaiden
“The service project made me realize that there are soldiers that are alone and are away from their families. It inspired me to volunteer my time and help people who are in need. The trip was very special to me.” Alan
“Soldiers work really hard and have to leave their families for their missions. I feel bad for them, and feel good that I made them happy by sending them all the products and food.” Jordan
“I learned to help others and to walk in other people’s shoes.” Madison
“It was so meaningful because the troops can get lonely, and it gave me a chance to do something for someone else far away from home. They are helping us, so we are helping them. It also meant so much to the other volunteers. I loved packing everything.” Rose
Connor- “I read to the kids, Go Dogs Go and they loved it. I enjoyed seeing them smile. One kid cried when I said I had to leave.”
